Conference Roundup
The last week has been a whirlwind of activity for a portion of our Metaplace team who attended various conferences and meetings pertaining to the web and gaming industry.
The first up was the Metaverse Roadmap meeting and the Metaverse U Conference at Stanford University, attended by Areae president Raph Koster. Here is some CNET coverage of Raph’s commentary at the roadmap meeting. Here is a link to some of the coverage of Raph’s panel with Cory Ondrejka (former Linden Lab) and Howard Rheingold (online community guru). Raph also wrote notes on a couple of the other presentations at Metaverse U:
Next up was the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, CA. A great summation of GDC can be found here. Raph participated in a keynote in the Worlds in Motion summit and there was plenty of postmortem coverage:
Following that was an off-site luncheon of the luminaries, featuring David Perry, Chris Taylor, Neil Young, Phil Harrison, and Peter Molyneux. Here is the full transcript, and here is some of the coverage:
And more linked here!
Finally, we closed up the conference with a lecture by Raph and our lead programmer Sean Riley called “Reinventing MMOs: A Metaplace Antemortem”. This was a session that explained a lot of the technical pieces that have gone into building Metaplace so far. Here is a partial liveblog of the talk, and here is some brief commentary.
All in all, it was a great conference week! Stay tuned for more stress testing announcements in the near future.
